September PDM
Klemme’s Wagon Wheel
120 S. Wisconsin Drive, Howards Grove, WI
Date: Wednesday, September 9th 2015
Speaker: Christopher Conto, Superintendent Manufacturing, Kohler Engines,
Kohler Co.
Topic: Kohler Engines Plant
Speaker:
Chris joined Kohler Company in September 2014. In his role as
Superintendent at the Wisconsin facility, Chris is responsible for key
operations strategies and initiatives including quality improvement
projects, cost reduction projects, achieving gains in productivity,
increasing inventory turns and reducing raw material inventory and
achieving capital plan spending.
Prior to joining Kohler Company, Chris worked for TRW Automotive where he held progressive
operations roles since 1997, most recently as General Manager of TRW’s Mexico Operation.
Chris has a diverse background in engineering, program and business unit management, and has
proven results in exceeding goals in safety, quality, delivery and savings. He graduated from the
University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
About the Presentation:
What John Michael Kohler saw in 1873 when he looked at a cast iron horse trough was the
bathtub that launched a global plumbing company. That pioneering spirit of ingenuity – the kind
that sees a bathing revolution in a horse trough – has defined Kohler Co. from its earliest days. A
visionary, John Michael Kohler understood the two essentials of exceptional design: An
uncompromising commitment to craft and a willingness to be bold. After four generations, we
remain a family-owned company. We’re still leading the industry in innovation and design. And
we’re bolder than ever.
Everyone is familiar with Kohler as that Bold, family owned plumbing company but there is
much more to Kohler! Chris will be explaining the Engines side of Kohler Company, a brief
history, their products, customers, and markets. He will go thru some details about the Engines
plant in Kohler Wisconsin and the latest technologies they are using in the fabrication and
assembly of their World Class Engines. He will finish up with some discussion about their
transition into a continuous improvement organization.
